2 x 2 Solos: Call for Curators

Pro Arts is now accepting applications from curators for 2 x 2 Solos, an exhibition series commissioning new work from four accomplished emerging artists based in the Oakland/Bay Area.

2 x 2 Solos serves as a significant platform for the production of, and engagement with, art in Oakland. Supported, in part, by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and East Bay Community Foundation, the program establishes important professional opportunities, networks and critical visibility for emerging artists, curators and writers. Artist participation in the program is based on nomination by the top art professionals in the region. From over 100 nominations, four artists are selected based on reviews by a curatorial panel and studio visits with independent curators.

Four curators will be selected for the project. Curators will, in collaboration with Pro Arts' independent curatorial committee, finalize artist selections based on studio visits held in late October 2014. Selected curators will then produce a solo exhibition with the artist they are paired with in Pro Arts' downtown Oakland gallery space. This includes overseeing the production of new work, coordinating installation and layout of work, writing a curatorial statement, and finding a regional arts writer to produce an essay for the exhibition catalogue.

Final exhibitions will take place at Pro Arts in August - October, 2015. An $500 honorarium is provided.

Instructions to Apply:

Entry is FREE. Online application only via Pro Arts' online system. Application should include:

• Curatorial statement (maximum 4,000 characters) with web links of past exhibition documentation
• Resume (maximum 8,000 characters)
• Up to 8 images of curated exhibitions (.jpg, approx 800 x 600 pixels and 72 dpi)

Please note, the 2 x 2 Solos selection process pairs selected curators with nominated artists based on review of submissions and studios visits.

Important Dates:

• Studio Visits: tba (scheduled late October 2014)
• Artist Notification: Tuesday, November 4, 2014
• Series Exhibition: August - October 2015
