Youth Fellows Exhibition 2011

April 12 - 16, 2011

Artist Reception: Thursday, April 14, 6 - 8 PM

Pro Arts' Youth Fellows Exhibition 2011 features artwork by forty-four young artists participating in the Youth Fellows program. The exhibition showcases new work in a variety of mediums, capturing the diverse voice of Oakland youth.

Youth Fellows integrates arts education, exhibition opportunities, professional arts training and youth development for students at participating Oakland public high schools. Initiated in 2007, Youth Fellows is a multi-faceted program designed to stimulate and nurture artistic development by introducing the use of artistic practices to youth. Working closely with artist mentors, students take part "Art Intensives" aimed at encouraging and supporting the self-discovery of their unique creative vision and voice. Each Intensive culminates in the production of an exhibition at Pro Arts' gallery in downtown Oakland.

Youth Fellows Arts Training Intensives serve youth at 5 Oakland high schools: Mandela, Unity, Oakland High, Skyline and Lighthouse Charter School. Additional students participate in the Arts Education Presentations at the same schools.
