Pro Arts @ Latham Square: Liz Maxwell
1611 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland
September 21, 2012 - March 12, 2013
The paintings in this exhibition use geometry and color to express impressions of an abstracted reality. Recalling memories of Mexico, Liz Maxwell employs parallel lines, sometimes intersected by slanted ones, to evoke landscapes and architectural forms.
Liz Maxwell work has been shown in many exhibitions in the Bay Area and across the country. She is represented by Hang Art Gallery in San Francisco. Her work is motivated by interests in nature, mathematics, and cosmology and the wonders of outer space.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley, Liz Maxwell studied art in summer sessions and weekend classes at CCAC. She has been painting for 35 years, and has been a (nearly) fulltime artist since retiring from two previous careers. She has been involved with Pro Arts in Oakland for over 30 years.
The exhibition is on view weekdays from 9am to 5pm in the Latham Square lobby located at 1611 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland. Admission is free.
